The other night in my prayer time the Lord taught me about how to deal with the enemy when he attacks with fear.
A while back, the Lord showed me that a secret to dealing with fear lies in 2 Timothy 1:7, which says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” When the enemy attacks us with fear, it is an oppressive attack which comes against us in those three areas. Fear tries to make us feel powerless, rejected and alone, and causes us to have irrational thoughts. If we give into fear, we will make decisions based on those twisted impulses.
Here is the truth for each of the three areas from this scripture:
Power: you have authority over the enemy.
Love: you are not rejected and alone, but accepted and loved by God.
Sound mind: scripture teaches us to make our thoughts submit to the authority of Christ. Irrational thoughts cannot coexist with submitted thoughts.
This night the Lord said to me, “The enemy has no power to make you do anything. When he comes against you with a fear attack, it is designed to oppress you into willingly submitting and making a choice out of your own free will to do what the enemy wants. If you understand and apply 2 Timothy 1:7, it will derail the enemy’s attack.”
When the Lord used the word derail, it caused me to imagine the oppressive fear attack of the enemy as a freight train coming toward me at high speed. When such a train is derailed, it will fly off the track, the cars will fly apart, and it will hit the ground in a messy pile with an explosion and fire. The train will be completely destroyed and unable to accomplish its intended purpose. So also it is with fear when we understand the fullness of what the Lord is teaching us here.
The Lord then gave me three scriptures, one for each category, and tasked me with finding three others. Here they are.
Power:
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”
Luke 10:19
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Love:
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Sound mind:
Psalms 56:3
“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”
1 Peter 1:13
“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;”
Now with these scriptures we will be armed against every fear attack of the enemy. In order to fully derail fear, we must take these steps:
- Learn them
- Believe them
- Allow them to renew your mind, so that the way you think is according to these scriptures.
